‹ Why John Carmack Believes in Mobile Games •
The urge to play is built into our DNA. Humans are by nature restless, always seeking something to occupy their attention. 300 is paltry for a mobile flash game. Its not enough to encourage continued development from flash developers. If playoo offered a share i.e. customer buys game developer gets 1%-10%. Then you would find yourselves in a position where you have a hard time choosing games.

You’re assuming that we’d find a lot of people to pay for games. We don’t believe this is the case. A major reason for the lack of mainstream success in the mobile games industry is that consumers don’t want to pay. Why ? Because the type of person who is happy to pay for a game is generally more likely to play on a console or PC, and is really not at all interested in a 30 second casual game. Especially not paying for it.
The idea of the €300 fee is to stimulate the Playyoo Developer Program so that we can start to build a market, where developers can compete for serious contracts. Note, we are NOT buying these games. They remain the property of the developers.
Playyoo is about user generated content, which is not always an easy concept to grasp in the context of games. But we are also trying to find ways to help developers find their own market.
